Angers Nice Preview

angers nice preview

Shy performance from Angers last week away at Montpellier (lost 1-0). They were outplayed in all areas of the field, and the counter-attacking game was only a pale shadow in comparison to last season.

Newly arrived forwards Diedhiou and Toko Ekambi started in the lineup, but barely touched the ball. Both of them were top-scorers at their Ligue2 teams last season, but will have difficulties making a name in Ligue1.

They looked a bit better in the defensive phase, but still made errors and keeper Petric was too hesitant. Petric will continue in goal, since regular keeper Letellier will once again miss due to injury.

Important midfielder Mangani missed last round, and at the moment there are no updates on his injury.

Nice took many by surprise last round, after winning 1-0 against Rennes. Nice is a totally different team in comparison to last season (weaker), but will continue to create problems for experienced Ligue1 sides.

Nice’s midfielders and forwards are extremely young, and at 23 striker Plea was the oldest one last round (not considering defenders). At 19, attacking midfielder Marcel played his first Ligue1 game and was really impressive. Great ball control, good vision and altruism are only a few of his qualities, not to mention he looks like Ruud Gullit. He is definitely one to keep an eye on, especially for scouts.

Winger Eysseric will return this round after suspension to add a bit of experience. Defenders Boscagli and Gomis will also return to the squad after being suspended last week.

The price on Angers seems a bit too low, even if they will be very determined in the first home game this season. But for the time being it is best to stay away from Nice, especially since they rely a lot on youngsters with little experience.

UPDATE: Angers’ defender Pavlovic could make his debut this round. Nice will welcome back fullback Ricardo who missed first round.
