Angers performed above expectations in the first round away at Montpellier.
In defense they were very compact and opponents couldn’t find a way to get inside the penalty box, while upfront the trio Sunu – Camara – Ketkeo created chances out of nothing. Especially Camara was extremely active and even managed to score (was man of the match). He is a powerful and skilled player and will surely attract the attention of big clubs if he will continue in this manner.
Angers can be really impressive in the attacking phase where the triangles created through short and fast passes can confuse even experienced defenders. It is a pleasant surprise to see a newly promoted side performing at such a level.
Hosts will have to do without defender Mohsni (suspended) who arrived from Rangers this summer.
Nantes won last round against Guingamp with a goal scored in the dying seconds but the overall performance was a bit disappointing. Nantes have some extremely talented players in their ranks but it seems it may take a while for them to achieve full potential and build playing relations.
In the first half Nantes tried to push the game forward but they collapsed once near the penalty box. At the moment they do not have a proper strategy, they lack a clear game plan and also chemistry in the offensive phase is at low levels. They were really lucky to win last round thanks to an own goal that arrived against the run of play…
Nantes will welcome back central defenders Vizarrondo and Djilobodji who were suspended last round. Most probably Djilobodji (key player last season) will continue to sit out due to a conflict with Nantes’ president (Djilobodji wants to transfer).
Nantes belong in the upper half of the table but not until pragmatic tactics are implemented and newly arrived attacking players fully adapt (Thomasson, Sala and Adryan). Even if the game will mostly be played in midfield Angers attacking trio can take opponents by surprise and score when they least expect it. Angers -0.25 at 2.11
UPDATE: Nantes will miss attacking players Sala and Bedoya due to injury.
