Last round Angers had to accept the rhythm imposed by Nantes, and the final score is fully justified (Nantes won 2-1).
Defending the flanks proved to be a major difficulty and both fullbacks got booked. Fouling opponents was the only way to stop them, and fullback Cissokho even got a red card.
With the exception of keeper Michel, defender Traore and forward Bamba, Angers used the best possible lineup in the midweek Cup game against Bordeaux. They once again appeared very vulnerable down the flanks, but attacking players did their job and Angers qualified to the semifinals (won 2-1).
Hosts will have to do without defender Martinez.
Last week Monaco’s loose defense was severely punished by PSG in Coupe de la Ligue final.
Monaco bounced back in Coupe de France in midweek, and won 2-1 against Lille. However the performance wasn’t very convincing, especially considering Lille got a red card in first half.
Coach Jardim used a few reserves in key positions, and especially the attacking strength was diminished. Forwards Mbappe and Falcao, and playmaker Bernardo Silva started only on the bench. Now all of them should be back in the lineup, same as winger Lemar who had a light injury.
Monaco have an important game next week in Champions League, but that doesn’t mean they won’t be able to exploit Angers’ major weakness (defending the flanks). In the same time, the home side is in good offensive form and should gladly take part in an open encounter. OVER 2.75 GOALS at 2.06
