What everyone knew will happen is finally official, Ajaccio are relegated. The taste is even more bitter as it happened after a defeat at regional rivals Bastia.
Nevertheless players were accustomed with this situation long before it became a reality. They knew what was coming and all they could do was go down in style. That’s how we can explain the high scoring games Ajaccio have been involved in recently.
Coach Bracconi was very unpredictable these last rounds and kept on changing the system, went from 2 strikers to 1 and the other way around. But no matter the formula Ajaccio delivered upfront in most games. Last round as well they created numerous opportunities, scored once, but the fragile defense once again betrayed (lost 2-1 at Bastia).
There is a good possibility (but not a certainty) that Ajaccio will take the foot off the gas this round (a bit depressed) as they still have another home game this season.
Opponents Monaco may also lack motivation especially since the chances for them to lose the second place are only mathematical. Even last round on home ground against regional rivals Nice (won 1-0), Monaco didn’t perform at full potential and were happy to just wait for time to pass. Monaco opened the score early in the game and reduced the intensity of efforts afterwards. Many times during the 90 minutes they even looked cornered by opponents.
Especially in the attacking department Monaco’s performance last round was really disappointing with stars like Rodriguez or Berbatov failing to open up a compact defense.
With motivation running low on both sides this is not exactly an ideal game in terms of betting as absolutely anything can happen.
