Just give me a second to count all Ajaccio’s suspended players. Midfielders Cavalli, Belghazouani, Lasne and Pierazzi will all miss through suspension. With the exception of Belghazouani all the others are very important for Ajaccio.
A women team could keep a clean sheet against Ajaccio in normal conditions, but now without Cavalli and Lasne (mediocre players but for Ajaccio are like oxygen) only by a miracle they will be able to score. I know this is the season to be jolly and everything but let’s not exaggerate…
Lately Ajaccio concentrated on defending on 2 lines. Well it’s not working for them because of the average value of players and besides, in order to avoid relegation they need points, and only by defending they won’t be able to get any.
Central midfielder Pierazzi will also be severely missed. He’s the most stable player, the team captain, the one coordinating both the defensive and offensive phase.
In his absence Ajaccio will rely on Faty and Mostefa in central midfield, both of them slow and out-of-form (especially Faty who’s been injured for a long period).
4 consecutive wins and 5 straight clean sheets for Lorient. In this last month I often went against them and every-time they proved me wrong. Defensively, hat off to Lorient for making it almost impossible for opponents to create anything. Offensively, I still have my doubts and don’t trust striker Aboubakar in spite him scoring 9 goals so far.
Good news for Lorient as after a long time they are finally able to add a bit of continuity. This is the first round in quite some time when they have only 3 players out (who also missed previous rounds): Audard, Coutadeur, Quercia. Usually they had 3 injured players and another 3 or 4 doubtful (all of them were important).
Now even key striker Aliadiere is fully fit and should start in the detriment of Aboubakar.
With nobody to initiate a lucid offensive phase Ajaccio will have to attack in numbers and agglomerate, rely on crosses and lucky deflections. Lorient are stable at the back and can cope with such techniques.
Hosts won’t afford the luxury to defend in numbers anymore, they need points after all. Hopefully Aliadiere will have enough space and will find Ajaccio to be the perfect opponents in order for him to start scoring again and pick up some rhythm.
At the price of 2.16 I just have place a bet on Lorient to win.
